Well, just when I was ready to hang up my heels till Grammys, out of seemingly no-where, comes another glamorous Red Carpet Event, and in Sydney to boot. Last night, we were graced with many a fine Aussie actor taking to the RC of the Australia Academy Cinema Television Arts (AACTA) Awards.
Two Words – Cate Blanchett
I literally (literally) gasped when I saw the effortless elegance of Cate draped in this slinky, pale pink, silk kimono-style gown by Alexander Mcqueen. Not only is our Cate a force to be reckoned with on the screen, she is our very own Fashion Icon (there I said it – Icon). And can I see a burgundy hued smokey eye? Stop it! Perfection.
And, I was also rather taken with the cool, “I’m-not-going-to-tart-myself-up-in-a-gown-because-I’m-above-all-that” get-up of young Sophie Lowe. She wore this black Camilla and Marc jumpsuit like a boss. And teamed with incredible Bulgari jewels, vampy nails and the perfectly understated hair and make-up – she proved to be a real RC contender.
While Gracie Otto didn’t send me spiraling in satirical lust like our friend Sophie, I respect her choice of a white Ellery mid-length dress with plunging neckline, uncluttered by jewels. And because of this more edgy choice, missy still gets my vote as a Chic Operator.
This would have to be no other than our Rose Byrne in the most adorable, midriff bearing white ensemble by Toni Maticevski ever to be seen on an RC in the whole world. (We are talking a water-shed moment here, Glams.) She looked as pretty as a picture in what was a fresh, youthful take on Red Carpet fashion.
Camila Kaftan No
Oh Carlotta. You can dress a Camillla kaftan with a fur stole but it’s still, very obviously, a Camilla kaftan, and has no business being seen on an RC. Bad Carlotta. Camila is for afternoon drinks on a sultry day and private soirees only. (And not even a strappy shoe!)
Glams, that was a snippet of what was a really well attired RC showcasing some fantastic Australian fashion. AACTAS Red Carpet – you’ve done us proud.
