Well, Glams, what a fine start to Award’s season, with my favourite event – The Golden Globe Awards, made even more spectacular by my fave host: Ricky Gervais who did not disappoint. He was as always, risqué and hilarious. The Red Carpet also came up trumps, with many standouts, and as always, there were those whose stylists took them down a misguided path. Look, it can happen to the best of us (Amy Schumer). So, without further ado, here is what rocked my boat on this exceptional Golden Globes RC:
Firstly, Guiliana Rancic, who I do love as a presenter, but who very often, commits some minor or major RC faux pas. However, she looked AH-MAZING in a coral-red Alex Perry caped (you know I’m sick for a cape) gown with a teeny waist cut-out (for her teeny waist) that made her look – beautiful.
Another caped crusader: J-Lo: Can we all just let out a collective sigh of relief that Missy wasn’t sporting ANOTHER sheer, spangly concoction from Zuhair Murad with all her toned bits on display (SO last year). She had the good sense to leave the Vegas dresses for Vegas, and expose just a shapely dancer’s leg in a STUNNING, mustard shaded, CAPED Giambattista Valli number teamed with a perfect deep red statement pout, classic coiffed hair and bejewelled with Harry Winston diamonds and a Jimmy Choo sparkling heel. She cuts a striking figure on the RC – no doubt about it.
A true standout of the night was young Jaime Alexander in a tres elegant, black and emerald green printed Genny gown. What really made this look a class act were the perfectly paired make-up, hair and just the right Lorraine Schwartz emerald earring. She owned the effortless glamour that could be seen on a Cannes RC (another Red Carpet that I’m very fond of).
Another surprise mention would be the teeny-tiny Kate Bosworth. I would like to have plumped her up a bit with maybe some of the buffet food I’ve been eating whilst cruising, but, nevertheless she did look exquisite in a strapless pink sequined Dolce and Gabana gown. Her fragile beauty was further showcased in rosy hued make-up, hair in a regal up-do, and elegant diamond chandelier earrings.
Glams, I was also really taken with how beautiful Amy Adams looked in a classic, beautifully cut red Atelier Versace gown with sequinned features and Neil Lane diamonds. Her loose, cascading curls and fresh makeup gave her a sexy, vibrant and healthy look.
Which leads me to my next pick: Kate Hudson. While many may argue that this Michael Kors creation wasn’t in fact a gown, she did look really hot and she just got me with her toned bod, sexy hair and again – beautiful, healthy looking make-up. And…I kind of loved the rose quartz coloured two-piece with matching neck adornment – which in fact, from the back was an ALL ONE PIECE GOWN (naysayers) – genius. She rocked it!
Another actoooor who also looked healthy and gorgeous was Brie Larson. Now, young Brie has had some truly shocking moments on the RC. So, even though we needed a smidgen more attention to the hair – she glowed with gold-tinged skin (if that was from a bottle – gimme) and a show-stopping Calvin Klein gold, beaded gown that revealed just enough of her beautiful bod. Her make-up was also spot-on – not too sheeny but sophisticated and glowy.
Another very unfortunate looking starlet who dazzled in the hue of GOLD was our friend Rosie Huntington-Whitely. Look, seriously, she could wear a paper-bag and still make it on my ‘Fave’ list, so it’s hardly fair. However, it was the simplicity and detail of this gold Atelier Versace number that really showcased her incredible beauty. Sigh. (Punching WAY above your weight Jason Statham.)
There are black dresses and then there is Lady Ga Ga’s custom made Versace in Italian black velvet MASTERPIECE. Jaw-dropping! What this dress did for her body – wowser! She truly owned old Hollywood glamour like she was born that way (lol). Her hair and make-up was also bombshell worthy.
I unashamedly adore the colour burgundy (or, the colour of red wine) and a bit of a statement necklace. So, I thought Olivia Wilde looked the business in a shiney, burgundy coloured Michael Kors gown, teamed with a drool-worthy Bulgari necklace and the matchy plum-hued smokey eyes. Love.
Now, I don’t think J-Law has ever been on my ‘best in show’ list because she’s never really owned a look on the RC. Well, what a turn around – the platinum hair in a sophisticated but simple up-do, statement red lip (so Hitchcock) and her incredible red Dior couture gown teamed with Chopard diamonds adorning her neck. Finally, she became a true Glamazon.
I love Amy Schumer. Who doesn’t? BUT she needs to put down the fake tan and get a new make-up artist (call me) and stylist. We have not seen Amy look her best yet on the RC. Last night was more of the same – a look that didn’t quite hit the mark with a black and white Prabal Gurung gown. And the blue eye-shadow? That’s a no from me.
Queen Latifah – what happened here? A full-figured woman in a sleeveless column dress? This is WRONG (I know because I am a full-figured lass and would not be caught dead in a sleeveless column dress – CRIMINAL). The colour was fantastic against her beautiful complexion, but I do get frustrated when I see stylists get it SO wrong when they are dressing an average sized lady. (Call me.)
Patricia Arquette, sack your stylist now! Shocking! A beautiful women who has looked terrible on at least the last 2 RCs – shame. This was a bad, bad, bad gift with purchase dress, with really shabby hair and make-up. I would love to see Patricia look as glamorous as she deserves on the next RC.
Kate Winslet didn’t look truly awful, but she did look like a Mosman bridesmaid. Yawn. I want to see a new, hotter look for our Kate. Is it so much to ask?
Leonardo Di Caprio, who I thought was just an actor, that amongst other pursuits, enjoyed dating Victoria Secret models, proved to be of greater stuff, if his acceptance speech is anything to go by. This MAN was the only award recipient to thank the most important person of any film – his make-up artist, AND more significantly, he also honoured indigenous people globally. He’s so got my vote for the next and most prestigious Best Actor award (which will for sure get him over the line).
Well Glams, in a blink of an eye we’ll be back on the Red Carpet for the RCs of RCs – The Oscars.
Until then…Mwaaaah. x
