Well, it’s over, the finale – the heady time of Red Carpets and swishing gowns; the crowning jewel in the awards season – The 86th Academy Awards. Sigh. This year, as is the custom, it was a more subdued, regal affair in the fashion stakes. But no one, and I mean no one could hold a flame to our Cate Blanchett – she was Red Carpet Oscars ALL OVER.
A true, Hollywood glamazon. From the tip of her coiffed head to her toes, resplendent in an incredible flesh coloured, embellished Giorgio Armani gown with the most elegant mesh neck detailing – it was pure perfection. Made even more so by the most ridiculously beautiful drop, aqua earrings. Drool! And all paired beautifully with understated make-up in matte warm tones, highlighting her porcelain complexion. Divine. And not a bad actress either. Who knew?
Another firm favourite on the Red Carpet circuit has been newcomer Lupito Nyong. The best supporting actress for 12 Years a Slave (still in therapy from that movie) was an absolute vision in a Prada iced-blue gown. I was in two minds about the headband, but I soon realized that this ingenious choice of accessory actually brought the look together beautifully.
Kate Hudson got her Hollywood siren on in this beaded Versace showstopper with cape detail (do love a cape). Seriously bombshell material.
I was also very taken, and safe to say it’s the first time that missy has ever made a mention on my Red Carpet contenders list, (you know me, I give credit where credit is due) with young Jada Pinkett Smith. She shone in a stunning salmon coloured old Hollywood styled Versace. It was divine against her caramel complexion. Nice one Jada.
I also loved Mrs. Ellen DeGeneres. Portia de Rossi looked hot in this nude, halter-neck Narrim Khan. It was effortlessly glamorous, modern and sexy – her to a T. And don’t get me started on the cuff. Love!
Charlize Theron, who lets be perfectly honest, is one hell of an ice-queen (her latest round of Botox has made her look even less friendly, if that’s at all possible). Still, quite the striking figure in a black plunging neck Dior. Tres elegant.
Team McConaughey – the world’s hottest couple – also looked amazing. I love that although Camila Alvarez has the most incredible body, she chooses to look like a sophisticate rather than getting her bits out. This was one classy lady in a pale pink Gabriela Cadena gown, with STUNNING one shouldered cape business. And with matching ice-pink clutch? So drooling right now. Matthew, the deserving winner of the Best Actor award of the night, was not too shabby either, in a Dolce & Gabbana dinner suit. Dashing to say the least.
Well, that’s it for another year folks. Sigh. I guess there is always the Logies…
