Golden Globes 2013

Posted on by

Well, the 70th Golden Globes has come and gone. And this year, hosted by the very talented ladies of comedy Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, there were there were many great moments, plenty of laughs, impressive speeches (Hugh Jackman too gushy about his wife” quote of the night from the hub) and the amazing Jodie Foster pretty much coming out during her acceptance of the Cecil B DeMille lifetime achievement award. Hi, not the world’s best kept secret but interesting. However, as always, it was a night of fashion and high glamour – some winners and a few losers.

Here are the showstoppers:

JLo: No one does “showstopper” quite like JLo. Seriously, what 43 year old on the planet can make a skintight Zuhair Murad white lace plastered on a flesh coloured gown look so ridiculously hot? It’s criminal.

Jessica Alba: The true Hollywood siren of the night. She looked classically beautiful with her uber glamourous finger-waved hair and bright statement orange-red lip, yet also contemporary in a peach coloured Oscar de la Renta strapless silk gown and Harry Winston jewels with a Roger Vivier feathered clutch. Her flawless, honey-toned skin certainly made for the perfect canvas.

Kate Hudson: Rocked a circa late 80’s glam styled McQueen. My only bugbear: the hair! This gown begged for an up do of sorts, so as to showcase those power shoulders. But still…hot!

Lucy Lu: Her exquisite bone structure has me each time. That face! But really, I can’t even tell you why I was so enamored with her strapless floral print Carolina Herrera ball
gown and her side fishtail braid, but all I know is that she looked SO incredible. Love you Lucy.

Julianna Marguilies: I totally loved this frock. A stunning midnight blue lace, beaded Pucci masterpiece. Most importantly, the gown was honoured with the perfect do and make-up – a triumph!

Julianne Moore: Striking and elegant (she rarely puts a fashionable foot wrong) in black and white Tom Ford. Ditto to polished hair and make-up.

The Ozzies:
Nicole Kidman & Naomi Watts both held their own as always. I especially love that Nicole is always a leader of the pack when it comes to red carpet fashion, and she certainly owned this 60’s Bond Girlesque McQueen number. Teamed with tres sophisticated shorter do, and the make-up look of the night: a smoky eye and matte nude lip.

Naomi also looked ultra chic in a long sleeved, deep burgundy red Zac Posen. Her stunning coiffed chignon and classic make-up also made her the complete package.

Not Loving:

Halle Berry: I think the late 90’s is calling, it wants your look back. C’mon Halle, we’ve seen this before. Mix it up already!

Debra Messing: When bad strapless gowns happen to good people. Look, Deb has put on a smidge of weight, which is A-okay by me, but it’s the black strapless Donna Karan that really had me shuddering. Such a hard look to pull off the ‘straight across strapless’. It really does nothing for a woman’s decolletage. And you have to be all elfin like Anne Hathaway to really get away with it. To make matters worse: she presented an award standing next to stunning Lucy Lu while holding herself in an uncomfortable stance. Awkward.

Sofia Vergara: Yea, sure I’m jealous of her super-naturally perfect proportions and sexy Columbian drawl, but I’m a little tired of that same silhouette – figure-hugging strapless with the girls pushed out for all and sundry (yawn) and hair extensions for days. Next!

Thank goodness we have The Screen Actors, The Baftas and then The Oscars to really make it right.

Stay tuned for: Golden Globe Make-up.
